Australia’s largest superannuation fund AustralianSuper has appointed Don Russell as the independent chair of the $170 billion fund. He succeeds Heather Ridout, who has served as chair since 2013 and as a director since 2007. Russell has extensive experience in funds management and was the global investment strategist at BNY Mellon Asset Management Australia and the independent chair at State Super. He was previously the Australian ambassador to the United States and the principal adviser to Paul Keating. John Dixon has been appointed to the board as a representative of the Ai Group. He has over 30 years’ experience in transport logistics and was chief operating officer at Linfox, executive director at Patrick, managing director at Westgate Logistics and currently owns Redstar Transport.
NAB Asset Management has announced its rebranding to MLC Asset Management and three new appointments. Amna Khan has joined as general manager, product. She joins from her role as head of product for Asia Pacific at First Sentier Investors. Prior to this she was at Citi Pakistan in product development. Mark Siow has been promoted to general manager, asset management services. He joined asset management in 1998 and has lead teams responsible for client investment strategy. Sharon Davis has been internally appointed as general manager, strategic initiatives and growth from her position as chief operating officer. Prior to that she was chief operating officer for AMP Capital Investors.The Treasurer has announced the appointment of a three-person panel to conduct an independent review of the retirement income system. Michael Callaghan joins the panel and is a former executive director of the International Monetary Fund and deputy secretary of the Treasury. He is joined by Carolyn Kay who is a non-executive director of the Future Fund, Scentre Group, the General Sir John Monash Foundation and the Australia-China Council. Deborah Ralston has been appointed to the panel. She is a professorial fellow in banking and finance at Monash University, a member of the Reserve Bank of Australia’s payments system board and most recently chair of the Alliance for a Fairer Retirement. She has resigned from her position as chair of the SMSF Association.
Resimac has announced the retirement of non-executive director Mike Jefferies. He has been on the board for three years and is the non-executive chair of gold producer Pantoro, and was formerly a director of Australian Wealth Management Limited, Afterpay Touch and Clearview Wealth Limited.
BNY Mellon subsidiary Newton Investment Management has announced the appointment of Andrew Parry as head of sustainable investment based in London. He has over 30 years of equity investment expertise, joining from Hermes Investment Management, where he was head of sustainable investing. Prior to this Parry was chief executive of Hermes European Equities.
